midasmotion are a UK based packaging machine supplier specialising in the refurbishment and upgrade of horizontal form-fill-seal machines, commonly known as flow wrap, flowrap, flow pack or flowpack machines. We are UK and European leaders in the supply of new, used and upgraded flowrappers and related machinery.
We can supply Ilapak, Record, Ulma, PFM, Redpack, Adpak, Delfin, Mondial, LMC, Fuji and almost any make and model of flow wrapper.

    Ilapak SPA
is a European manufacturer of flowrappers and other packaging related equipment with several factories producing flowrappers, primarily in Italy. Their horizontal flowrapper models include the Ilapak Carerra 500, Ilapak Carrera 1000, Ilapak Carerra 2000, Ilapak Jaguar, Ilapak Prima, Ilapak Astra, Ilapak Delta. Ilapak are one of the largest European manufacturers of flowrappers and have a reputation for making good reliable machines. Since their beginning they have made slow and steady design changes rather than full re-designs which has led to a large number of reliable and consistant flow wrappers in the market which share common components. In recent years they have started to manufacture one model, the Ilapak SMART, in China. The SMART machine is of identical design to the Italian manufactured Ilapak Carrera 500 model but without the quality of prodution typical of European manufacturing. Consequently the Chinese Ilapak SMART, which suffers from the inevitable quality issues of most Chinese low volume manufacturing, has inflicted some damage to Ilapak's reputation. Apart from the SMART model, Ilapak flow wrappers are good solid machines which are commonly available on the second hand market and make an excellent base for remanufacturing and internal multi-motor upgrade.

    Record Packaging Machinery SPA
is an Italian manufacturer of flowrappers. Record are an old established manufacturer who originally were the main supplier to Ilapak who, several decades ago, were a non-manufacturing sales organisation. After an acrimonious split with Ilapak they built up a large and successful sales organisation and continued to produce high quality flow wrappers under their own brand name. Consequently their machines share a common heritage with Ilapak machines and are of an equal or, arguably, higher build standard. Record flow wrappers are popular and generally well built heavy duty machines. Their horizontal models are the Record Panda 1000, Record Panda 2000, Record Scorpion, Record Jaguar and Record Tigre.

    Redpack Packaging Machinery Ltd
are a well established UK manufacturer of flowrappers. They make a small range of solid well built standard and specialist packaging machines. In particular, their older, Redpack Pacer, machines are of a compact but rugged construction with heavy cast frame and plate steel panels. Later machines have followed the trend of lighter weight and cantilever design but are still recognisably robust and well engineered machines. Redpacks main horizontal flow wrapper models are the Redpack Pacer, Redpack P200 and Redpack P325.

    ULMA Packaging
is part of the ULMA Group and the huge Mondragon Corporation which is a federation of workers cooperatives supported by the Spanish government. Its primary manufacturing plant is based in the Basque region of Spain. It manufacturers a range of horizontal flowrappers from lighter weight entry level models to large and expensive high-end models. In particular, its higher end models are large framed robust flowrappers capable of continued high speed operation. Their flowrap model range includes the Ulma Florida, Ulma Atlanta, Ulma P350, Ulma P400, Ulma P500, Ulma FR200, Ulma FM300, Ulma Sienna, Ulma Nevada and Ulma Pacific. The Ulma Atlanta model in particular is an excellent candidate for internal upgrade and modernisation.

    PFM Packaging Machinery SPA
are an Italian company based in Northern Italy. They are one of the larger European flowrap manufacturers and over the years they have produced many different models of horizontal flowrappers. Standard rotary jaw models are the PFM Hurricane, PFM Falcon, PFM Swift, PFM Tornado, PFM Bora, PFM Pearl, PFM Sirio. Some are heavy duty robust models, some less so. The PFM Hurricane, PFM Tornado and PFM Falcon are slightly older models which make excellent machines once upgraded. The PFM Swift is a popular model but is a low budget machine which is particularly light weight and can suffer if used hard. PFM also make several long dwell and specialist flowrappers which are generally well made heavy duty machines and excellent candidates for upgrade.

    Rose Foregrove, now known as
    BW Flexible Systems
, formely Barry Wehmiller, APV Baker, Hayssen and part of the group that now owns Schib were originally an English company with a long history in the flow wrap industry. Originally known just as Rose Foregrove they originated and pioneered many of the engineering designs that are still prevalent in flowrapping world wide. At one time they had several large factories around northern England and the Midlands and sold machines in large quantities world wide. Unfortunately, after several decades of take-overs, management restructures and buy-outs, they are now a relatively small part of a bigger American owned corporation with parts and machines rumored to be manufactured in various other parts of the world. Their older machines were always very well engineered, strong and long lasting, although slightly over complex at times. For many years, and still currently manufactured, their main horizontal models were the Rose Foregrove Merlin and Minerva. Both make excellent very long lasting machines once refurbished and internally upgraded and are popular with the contract packaging industry where machines meed to be rugged and adaptable.

    Autowrappers, now part of the
    Bradman Lake Group
, were originally based in the UK. An early manufacturer of hand loaded standard rotary jaw flow wrappers, they now concentrate on large complex automatic lines using high end expensive and complex flowrappers. However, their earlier machines have a small footprint but are particularly robust being largely engineered from cast frames and heavy components. Their compact dimensions make them quite difficult to upgrade and work on but also makes them useful if space is at a premium.

    Delfin SPA
are a well respected medium size manufacturer of flowrap machines based in Northern Italy. They make simple but well engineered machines which compete well with the bigger players such as Ilapak. Although we concentrate on used upgraded flowrappers, sometimes we need a brand new flowrapper ourselves. Sometimes this is part of a larger automation project or because a potential customer, or an existing customer, specifically asks us for one. We use Delfin mechanical assemblies such as the main body, jaw mechanism, bottom crimp unit, etc and build them into new machines at our facility in Yorkshire using the same internal components we use in all our rebuilds and upgrades. This means we can supply new flowrappers with the same functionality and user feel that so impresses all our customers - all at a very competitive price.

There are many smaller, mostly Italian, companies who used to, or still do, manufacture flowrappers. Many of them are smaller lighter weight models although still of reasonable quality. Companies such as
    GSP
    ,
    Mondial Pack
    ,
    LMC
    ,
    CampBell
    (formerly FMC and Sasib),
    Cavana
    ,
    TechoPack
, etc. We know almost every flowrapper model built and we can advise on the quality and worthiness of refurbishing and upgrading any particular machine. After upgrade, many of these Italian flowrappers make good small foot-print latest generation machines that give excellent long term service.

A word of warning about Chinese flowrappers! Our experience of Chinese flowrappers is particularly poor and we would advise anyone considering purchasing a Chinese produced flowrapper, whatever name it's sold under, to think again! Our experience of Chinese flow wrappers, without exception, is that they are made of very poor metal, parts are poorly machined, very poorly assembled with atrocious quality control. Most Chinese machines are sold through small sales agencies in the UK who don't have sufficient, if any, engineering resource and poor, if any, support from the manufacturer. Check carefully on the origins of any machine as some companies effectively attempt to hide the machines country of manufacture. Design safety standards of most Chinese machines are, at best, well below CE standards and, at worst, obviously dangerous and can easily lead to a serious and commercially damaging accident. This is why we don't sell Chinese machines and very rarely work on customers Chinese flowrappers. Chinese flowrappers have been produced for many years in huge volume but fortunately have yet to obtain any real penetration of the UK market. This may be because most potential flowrap users in the UK are well aware of the reputation of Chinese low volume machinery and naturally avoid them.
